Meaning of Numbers 1 to 23
(notice how all the numbers can have good AND bad meanings)

# Word Meaning Explanation
0 zero none

(possibly emptiness; void)

I'm not sure that the ancient Mesopotamians had a zero concept.

As I understand it, only the ancient Mayans and Arabians had the concept of a zero.

# Word General Meaning Good Meaning Bad Meaning
1 one unity; oneness; solitude Being unified in body ("one flesh"), mind, and/or heart (emotion). The Fool (tarot)

Being alone is foolishness.

2 two duality; opposition; division Good

(Two heads are better than one)

(Division; Divorce)

3 three completeness; government Trinity Oligarchy can become corrupt, especially when dealing with human beings.  Who said, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely"? (Sir John Dalberg-Acton)
4 four "Death;" end; mortality; change End of something...
( also the beginning of something else)

This can be good if it means the end of something bad AND/OR change into something GOOD!

Frankly, 4 rarely indicates death in a literal sense, but rather "death" of some event or cycle in your life.

It's only BAD if it indicates a change for the worse!

5 five Overcoming; rule (ruler); triumph over death; resurrection; being in control; power Overcoming (anything);
triumph;  ruling one's self;
control of one's life/future;
Usurping control; Taking other's freedom.  Trying to control others, when one should be trying to control his/herself.
6 six creation; procreation; reproduction Being creative; procreation in the proper way at the proper time in the proper place sex done in the wrong way at the wrong time in the wrong place
7 seven completion; rest rest from labors; Sabbath;
rest may mean the lack of funds being generated
8 eight new beginnings; salvation salvation; starting fresh having to start all over can be frustrating at times
9 nine trial / tribulation; but also, because it is the last number, it means the end (like the end of a cycle) End of a cycle

(If it is the end of a negative cycle, it can be a very good thing).

End of Days

End of the World

10 ten 10 = 1 + 0 = 1

unity; oneness; solitude

This only differs from "one" in the sense that it is wholeness and unity (as we have ten fingers, but they can be unified as in clasped hands)

This only differs from "one" in the sense that it may be compounded or stronger than "1".

Solitude can lead to loneliness, and broken-heartedness, especially when one has known a loving companionship for a time.

Nowhere have I found an adequate explanation of the so-called "master number".  So, I have analyzed the number:

11 = 1 + 1 = 2

2 = opposition; contest; test

I believe that it is called the "master number," because if we pass the test, we become a master!

If we fail the test; we fail to become a master.

Then, we have to re-test at some later date by enduring similar circumstances.

Ever noticed repeated cycles in your life?

12 twelve 12 = 1 + 2 = 3 See 3 See 3
13 thirteen 13 = 1 + 3 = 4 See 4 See 4
14 fourteen 14 = 1 + 4 = 5 See 5 See 5
15 fifteen 15 = 1 + 5 = 6 See 6 See 6
16 sixteen 16 = 1 + 6 = 7 See 7 See 7
17 seventeen 17 = 1 + 7 = 8 See 8 See 8
18 eighteen 18 = 1 + 8 = 9 See 9 See 9
19 nineteen 19 = 1 + 9 = 10 = 1 + 0 = 1 See 1 See 1
20 twenty 20 = 2 + 0 = 2 See 2 See 2
21 twenty-one 21 = 2 + 1 = 3 See 3 See 3
22 twenty-two A MASTER NUMBER All multiples of 11 are considered master numbers!  (See 11).

HOWEVER, I see this number as having a dual meaning:

22 = 2 + 2 = 4

The END of something.

See 11
23 twenty-three 23 = 2 + 3 = 5 See 5 See 5

It doesn't stop at 23.  I just stopped there, because I'm tired.

A = 1
B = 2

Gematria is the ancient science of assigning values to letters of the alphabet.  I'm ambivalent (in my opinion) on the science.  It may have worked for the ancient middle-eastern alphabets (like Hebrew and Greek), but when people try to apply it to the Roman/English alphabet, I believe that they make errors!

Don't believe ANYone who claims they can set values to the letters of your name and give you a reading solely based upon your given name!

------------------(NOW: Let's look at numerology in the TAROT)------------------

10 = 1 + 0 = 1 (unity)
(wholeness; everything; the universe; all is one (unity)

Tarot Card, #10, "The Wheel of Fortune"

Note:  The Wheel has always been a symbol of the galaxy in which we live, which for all intents and purposes is our universe.

11 = the master number
Basically, 11 = 1 + 1 = 2 (opposition)
However, to me, it has a special significance in relation to "opposition".
In my opinion, 11 represents the ultimate test, and if you pass the test, you become a "master".
If you fail the test, you have to keep repeating the test until you pass it.

(The 11th tarot card is "Justice", meaning the "Trial" or "Test" or "Reckoning;" akin to my idea of 11 being the ultimate test.)

12 = (1 + 2) = 3 (government; rule)

(12 apostles to govern the church)
(12 tribes of Israel to rule the world)
(12 signs of the zodiac to rule the heavens)
(12 chakras to rule the body)

13 = (1 + 3) = 4 (death; change)

(Now you know why 13 is such an unlucky number).

Tarot Card, #13, entitled, "Death":

Note:  The scythe bearing skeleton is tearing at the twin coils (representative of DNA).  Also notice the serpent (also representative of a DNA strand) lying dead on the floor.

You have to understand that the meaning is symbolic.  It does NOT mean literal death.  It means the end of something, and CHANGE!

14 = 5 (triumph; overcoming; ruling; control)

The root number is 5:  ruling or control; overcoming defeat.  See the ruler sitting on the throne?  It means being the ruler of one's own emotions, and ruler of one's own destiny.  Feeling in power of one's future!

The number 14 is temperance, meaning that one should rule with temperance; rather than extravagance.  Moderation in all things, my friend!

15 = 6 (creation; procreation)

Tarot #15  "Devil"                     Tarot #6  "Lovers"

Tarot #15:  Notice the phallus symbol and the two spheres, representing testicles; clearly a symbol of sex or procreation.  But, what really catches my attention is the winged staff in the middle, with twin serpents just under the wings.

Tarot#6:  Notice the serpent at the bottom, flanked by twins.  Wow!  For more info on the symbolism of cosmic, twin serpents, click here.

I believe the answer to that can be found in the two spheres.  When the act of procreation (sex) is done in immoral, lascivious, perverted ways, it then is Devilish.

Numerology in the Bible

Believe it or not, the Bible is replete with numerology!

# Meaning How it applies to the Bible
1 unity Jesus of Nazareth said:  "I and my father are one."
(John 10:30)
2 opposition light/darkness
shall I go on?
3 government Godhead (the Trinity)
12 apostles to led the church (12=>1+2=3)
4 death; change 40 days and nights of rain killed all humans, save 8
4 trial (judgment) Jesus was tried in the desert for 40 days.
The Israelites were tried in the desert for 40 years.
5 triumph over death; control; power; throne; king/queenship Enoch lived 365 years before being taken up to live with God for eternity.  He did not have to taste of death.  He was granted immortality.

The messiah's number was 14.  1 + 4 = 5 (overcoming; triumph over death)

When Matthew (the author of the first book of the New Testament in the Christian Bible) lists the genealogy of Jeshua bar Joseph ben David, the Nazarene, he takes great pains to show the lineage, which from Abraham was three sets of 14 generations.  14 showed that the Nazarene was the Christ/King.  3 showed that he had the right of government, i.e., the right to be king of all Israel.)

6 creation; procreation God created the world and all therein in 6 "days" or "periods of time".
7 completion; rest God rested on the 7th day.
8 new beginning The Earth was replenished by 8 souls after the flood.
9 trial;

and also: end.

Abraham's wife, Sarah, had her faith tried for 90 years being barren and without child.

I believe the origin of this meaning comes from the fact that a woman is burdened with child for nine months.  Support for this:

"For when the body is fashioned now in the mother's womb, and thou givest it members, thy creature is preserved in fire and water, and nine months doth thy workmanship endure thy creature which is created in her."  (4Ezra 8:8)

"And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames."  (Isaiah 13:8)

"For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape."  (1Thess. 5:3)

12 12 = 1 + 2 = 3 Gov't:  The twelve apostles ruled the church.

The 12 apostles may have represented the 12 signs of the zodiac, which RULED the sky in the precession of the equinoxes.

40 40 = 4 + 0 = 4 Change:  The Israelites had to change from paganism to monotheism by spending 40 years in the desert.
70 70 = 7 + 0 = 7

7 = REST

Rest:  I know this is a stretch, but when Jesus sent out the 70, it meant that He was done and that He was going to His rest; and that the 70 were to carry on his work.

Num.11: 16-25

[16] And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.
[24] And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.
[25] And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.

Furthermore, over and over in the old testament, the number 70 is used to indicate a period of time before something else would happen.  Interesting!

72 72 = 7 + 2 = 9

9 = travail of a woman with child

There are so many possible meanings here!

The name of God has 216 letters (in Exodus) divided into 3 sets of 72 letters.  Many people, scholars or otherwise, have speculated on the meaning.  Here's my interpretation:

(1)  in the COSMOS, there are 72 degrees is the same as 1/5th of precession.  It is what one of the braches of the five-pointed star represent, and what the Hindus would consider one corner of the pentagon which is 108 degrees.  It takes 72 years for the Earth to move 1 degree in precession!

(2) in the HUMAN,  9 represents the woman's travail when being pregnant, and have you ever noticed that we also speak of the woman's pregnancy in TRI-MESTERS????)  Hence, I am suggesting that GOD represents creation/procreation!

216 216 = 2+1+6 = 9

9 = travail of a woman with child

There were a total of 216 letters in the name of God (subdivided into 3 sections of 72) [Somewhere in Exodus].

If I am correct in my assertion that GOD is creation/procreation, then...

1-72 = the first trimester of pregnancy
73-144 = the second trimester of pregnancy
145-216 = the third trimester of pregnancy

666 trial,

and also end.

Meaning of the number 666 from the Bible;  Meaning of the number of the beast (666); which is the number of man.

6+6+6 => 18=>  1+8 =>  9 (trial, tribulation, travail) [also:  end of days]

["Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." (Revelations 13:18)]

Interestingly:  13 + 18 = 31 = 3 + 1 = 4, death!

Real Life Applications of Numerology

A date that will live in infamy:

9 + 11 + 2 + 0 + 0 + 1 = 23 => 2 + 3 = 5

Now there are a lot of ways of looking at this.  The number five signifies immortality and CONTROL.

(1) IMMORTALITY:  The names of all the victims of September 11th, 2001 have been immortalized in a memorial.  The date itself has been "immoratlized" in the collective memory of humankind!

(2) POWER/CONTROL:  It was an attempt by misguided people to control their circumstances in two ways:  to control their future in paradise, and to control the decadent WEST.

69 => 6+9 = 15 => 1+5 = 6
(a kind of perversion of the procreative act)

(How apropos! No?)

This book is about using numerology in everyday life, to improve the quality of your life.  However, be warned, the author doesn't use the Hebrew/Chaldean numerology.

  Numerology in Science

# Meaning Application in the sciences (generally biological)
1 unity the union of the female gamete (containing 23 chromosomes) and the male gamete (containing 23 chromosomes) = 46 chromosomes.  46 => 4+6= 10 => 1+0= 1 (unity).
2 opposition 2 opposite genders
2 opposite hemispheres of the brain
3 government The human body is governed by 3 systems:
Nervous System, Endocrine System, Circulatory System

There are 4 bases (A, C, T & G) in the human genome, making 12 possible combinations.  [12 =3].  Those 12 combinations are what determine (govern) who you are!

4 "death;"
 end; change
There are 4 stages of cognitive development:  sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete, and formal operations.  (Source:  Piaget)

FOREWORD:  Some children progress through the stages more rapidly, and others more slowly;  These are just average age delineations.

AGE 0-4  Sensorimotor Stage
The world that "I" know stops at what I can perceive, (and with my own body's movements).

AGE 4-8 Preoperational Stage
The world is not just about me.

AGE 8-12  Concrete Stage
"I" can think logically, but only concretely.

AGE 12-18 Formal Operations
"I" can now think abstractly and metacognitively.

5 immortality 23 chromosomes must be passed on (to progeny) in order to achieve immortality (to cheat death).  23 = 5
6 creation;
There are 6 possible pairs of bases in a human DNA sequence.  {AC, AT, AG, TC, TG, GC}.  These pairs occur through reproduction.

Also, Humans are carbon-based beings.  Carbon has 6 neutrons, 6 protons, and 6 electrons (666).

Furthermore, when balancing the chemical equation of photosynthesis (creation of sugar out of water and carbon-dioxide), one uses the number 6 three times:

   ___ H20  +  ___ C02    C6H12O6 + ___ 02

7 rest One's body needs a minimum 7 hours of sleep a night for optimal performance.
8 birth The 8th hole is for birth.  (see explanation below).
9 travail The woman travails after 9 months of burden in order to deliver a child.

ANATOMY: 8th hole

The male human has 7 orifices (holes).  They are:
2 nostrils (nose holes)
2 aural foramen (ear holes)
1 mouth
1 anal sphincter (poop hole)
1 external sphincter of the urinary tract (pee hole)

The female human has 8 holes.  Guess what the 8th hole is for?
That's right! New beginnings; Birth!

8 = new beginnings; birth

Numerology in Fiction

Was Douglas Adams Right?

Book DVD

In his book, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams suggests that
The answer to life, the universe and everything is 42!

And what does 42 mean?

Well, 42 => 4+2 = 6 (creation, procreation, reproduction)

Is that not what it's all about?

Is that not the answer to life, the universe and everything?

Jim Cary's Movie:  The Number

In the the movie, a professor mentions that 2 3 is 0.666, but that is so wrong.

2 3 is actually 0.6 repeating; And, that's not how numerology works, anyways.  You add digits.  You don't divide them.

The TRUTH about the number 23 is 23 => 2 + 3 = 5 (immortality; overcoming; power and control)

IN the MOVIE:  "The Number 23", it really has nothing to do with numerology.  I was quite disappointed.

Don't get me wrong.  I found the movie interesting.  It had an interesting plot.

All I'm saying is don't get your hopes up that it has any important message, or that the number itself is anything special.

The MOVIE "Pi" was quite revealing.

In the movie Pi, we learn that the name of God has 216 letters.

The main character tries to understand the mathematical significance of that number (216).

I don't remember his conclusions, because it wasn't very practical to my life.  It was something about calculating Pi to 216 digits, or something like that.

However, I DID remember the number 216, and I have formulated my own thoughts on it's meaning(s).

See above.
